NYMBO Update
Wykeham Forest MBO
Thanks to Steve Langron for another well-planned course. I would also like to thank him for leaving Control 9 out for me to collect on Sunday morning when I took my dog for a walk!! I hope you enjoyed the 2 map format and weren't baffled by the instructions. Only a small handful of riders visited an even control on the first map and ‘confessed' at download (but they weren't going to score those points anyway)!! We will be doing the same again in Gilling Woods in June.
Thanks to Jens for another excellent map and thanks to the helpers who sorted everything out cheerfully. Thanks also to you for coping with the car park!! I really didn't expect to be using the field after the rain we had overnight but I think it was better than parking on the road verges. Hopefully the weather will improve before our next event when we are using a very low-lying field beside the River Swale!!
Congratulations to Andy Conn for just pipping Andrew Windrum with a massive 420 points. John Rawden set the standard in M50 and there were impressive rides from Mandy Faint (9 th overall), Geoff Moorhouse and Nick Harmer (in his first ride since breaking his ankle). Meanwhile Steve and Andrea belied their ages (!!!) to put Bernard and Stephanie in their place!! You can check out their routes by looking at the splits on the web pages.
I really enjoyed my ride despite a sad lack of commitment, fitness and brakes. When I picked up Map 2 I decided to stay on the plateau and forgo the pleasure of cycling down and back up Mount Misery!! My bike is now in the shop (for repair, not sale) and I will be tagging the Swaledale control sites next week - so 2 improvements before Gilling.
It is early days in the league but there are already some familiar names leading their classes.
Andrew Windrum (M21); Wayne Nicholson (M40) ahead of Mike Nayler by 1 point; Mandy Faint (W40) leading Roz Barden by 7 points as well as all the W21's; John Rawden (M50), John Dixon and Dave Evans separated by only 10 points; John Tiffany (M60) leading Geoff Moorhouse by 15 points; Steve & Andrea (X40) ahead of Bernard and Steph (X21) by 4 points.
I have collected a few items of lost property. If you are missing a pair of cycling boots (from yesterday) or a Sigg bottle and bike computer from the Yorkshire Wolds please get in touch.
We return to the Yorkshire Dales next month with a 5 hour event starting at Grinton in Swaledale. Tents and caravans are welcome on the assembly field and it is only 50 yards to The Bridge Inn so why not come for the weekend. It's an earlier start than usual (between 10.00 and 11.00am) with registration opening at 9.30.
Steve Langron completed the 5000 metre Swimathon in 89 minutes. So far he has collected £1555 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The charity funds 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses across the UK and will mean that more terminally ill people can have the choice to die at home. Just £20 is all it costs to fund a nurse for an hour. If any of Saturday's competitors would like to donate to the charity they can do so by sponsoring him at http://tinyurl.com/36ydaa
The dates of the Summer Lanequests have been finalised so check out the web page if you fancy a pub based ride on a pleasant Wednesday evening in the summer. At least, I think the sun shone at one of last year's three events!!
