NYMBO Update – December
Grewelthorpe Lanequest
That was the coldest I have been for a very long time. It made the weather at Malham last weekend seem almost tropical. It started grey and calm but by the time I got up to the Moors above Dallowgill it was almost blizzard conditions. The Crown was a welcome refuge for all 46 riders but unbelievably no-one returned early and the only retirals were mechanical or navigational. Definitely not the day to be repairing punctures!! It was still somehow enjoyable but more on reflection once the food and beer had been served!! Graham Townsend had planned an excellent spread of controls. I chose to head for the moors but only saw 3 other riders as most people stayed between Grewelthorpe and Ripon. Andy Conn rode in his first NYMBO event for a year but showed that his European training has stood him in good stead for next year!! Harry Dowdell used his navigation skills and local knowledge to good effect again to finish second. Kevin & Janine Edwards stuck to the roads on their tandem to beat Jon & Amanda. Simon &Tim Robinson won the Generation class, I managed to beat the other super vets and Dorothy Pelly came from Sheffield to win the women’s category. There were over 20 veterans and only 3 senior men so I have decided to split the veterans into over 40 and over 50 categories in future.
