NYMBO Update

Gilling/Howardian Hills Weekend

Thanks to everyone for turning up and making the planning worth while. The Ampleforth Abbey Estate was an excellent location and the weather made it perfect. 116 riders tested their brains as much as their pedal power on the course planned by Nick Jones in Gilling Woods. It as a small area so even with 2 maps it was likely that the faster riders would clear up and 4 of them did - Andrew Windrum, Brendan Anglim, Andy Conn and Wayne Nicholson. At least it meant higher scores for everyone else. John Rawden would have made it 5 but he was 2 minutes late. Another impressive score was by the mixed pair of Dennis Jacques and Sheila Pearce who scored 505 points. I prefer being in the woods as you are finding controls every 5-10 minutes and constantly having to adjust your route. I think there may be more forest events in the programme next year.

Sunday saw a different challenge for the 77 rider with 5 hours around the Howardian Hills courtesy of Nick Harmer. There was no danger of anyone clearing this course but Andy Conn (warmed up by his clear-up on Saturday) gave it his best shot with 440 points after penalties!! Mandy Faint was the highest scoring lady with 376 points. There was no obvious optimum route but the leading riders in all classes had to cycle a long way to score their points - and decide when to leave some out. I definitely got it wrong and will be checking the splits to find out why!! My legs are still tingling after tackling the bridleway north of #51 twice!!

Thanks again to the helpers and control collectors on both days and to Jens for 2 more excellent maps. Thanks also to Loos2Ewe for their excellent portaloos.

Future Events

Wednesday 18th June 2 hour Lanequest

The Crosby, Thornton-le-Beans, Northallerton

Email entries to Steve asap

Saturday 12th July 4 hour Trailquest

Duncombe Park, Helmsley

This is a TCA National event as well as a NYMBO event so there will be a prizegiving afterwards to leading riders - but the entry fee is the same as usual. No camping available but plenty of sites around Helmsley. We are using most of the estate roads as well as the bridleways around Ryedale. Don't forget start times are between 11 and 12 so not such an early start. Just follow the brown tourist signs to Duncombe Park in Helmsley.

Entries as usual to Sue Relton

Please let me know if there are any errors in the results, any links that don’t work on the NYMBO page or you want your details removing from this mailing list.

Hopefully see you all at another NYMBO event soon.
