NYMBO Update

Yorkshire Wolds Trailquest

Thanks to John Butler for another well-planned course which gave us plenty of route choice. There were enough controls for at least 5 hours but unfortunately not enough daylight. The weather stayed dry but windy for the competitors but the collectors got very wet and only just managed to get back before dark. Sadly, Control 27 was vandalised during the event. If you visited it you should have punched your map and let us know at the finish. If you didn't claim it please get back to me.

Thanks to the Jens for another excellent map and thanks to the helpers who coped with the new classes and day members. If you joined on the day please log onto the TCA web page and register as associate members (free of charge) so that you don't have to join again, fill in another form and pay the extra £1.

I really enjoyed my ride despite the wind. I just wonder how it is possible to ride a circular route and still ride into the wind for 3½ hours out of the 4. I was a bit off the pace set by John Dixon and Dave Evans but it was interesting to see the M50's recording the best scores, followed by the M40's then the M21's. Congratulations to Karen Blackburn for beating all the other ladies and to Steph Fountain and Bernard Cleaver for winning X21 and beating the tandems.

This was our first league event for 5 years with less than 100 riders. The clash with the XCC National event probably didn't help but if you want to advertise our events then please pick up a poster and some fliers for your local bike shop next month.

We return to the forest in April with a 2 hour event planned by Steve Langron in Wykeham Forest. There will be no bridleway riding as all of the controls are in the forest so there will be 2 A4 maps with a map exchange after an hour or when you have visited all of the first 15 controls.

Steve Langron has asked that his planner's fee of £50 is donated to Swimathon 2008 in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Your money will help fund the work of more than 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses across the UK and will mean that more terminally ill people can have the choice to die at home. He will be swimming the maximum distance of 5km so sponsorship forms and a collection tin will be available at the event. Please check out his fundraising site at http://tinyurl.com/36ydaa
