NYMBO Update
Thornton Watlass Lanequest
Lower Wensleydale was the setting for the first event of the winter series. 35 riders enjoyed the beautiful rolling countryside with pretty villages either side of the River Ure on a lovely autumn day. Thornton Watlass is a very picturesque village and The Buck is the perfect place to start and finish any bike ride. Unfortunately, the farmers have been cutting the hedges so a number of riders had to mend punctures. 22 controls were on tarmac roads but there were 8 on bridleways so ‘roadies’ had a difficult choice to make. Uncharacteristically, Nick Harmer got it wrong so it was left to Harry Dowdell to use his navigation skills to good effect to beat John Dixon by just 3 points. Ruth Metcalfe came from Wales to win the Ladies section while Geoff Moorhouse and Andrea Foster won the mixed category (and, more importantly, beat Steve!!).
