NYMBO Update – November
Richmond Lanequest was enjoyed by the 26 riders who took part and the results are on the web page. The Holly Hill Inn made an excellent event HQ and the course gave the option of north or south of the river with only the fittest being able to visit both. The cycle paths through Catterick Garrison made for quick riding but the bridleway across the moor was difficult to follow and the camouflaged soldiers gave a few riders a nasty shock!! The bridleways around Whashton were lovely to ride only 3 weeks ago but have become very muddy recently. Mountain bikes were better for the 30 point controls but road bikes were quicker although they had to go round a few times. Andy Conn rode well but was beaten by Alun Powell by 35 points. Alun has just sorted his bike out recently but rode 42km including lots of soft bridleways. However, he is one of the most successful mountain marathon runners in the country!! John Rawden rode for the first time since a spate of injuries so didn't rush but made no mistakes to finish 3rd overall and win M50. Karen Blackburn was the first lady and 8th overall; Richard and James Martin won the Generation category and 10th overall.
The next NYMBO Lanequest is based at the New Inn at Eccup on Saturday 5th December. This event has been planned by Geoff Moorhouse and includes an excellent network of bridleways and minor roads through the Harewood Estate (including the set of Emmerdale), past Eccup Reservoir and between numerous golf courses in this undulating area just north of Leeds. Please send me an email if you want to reserve a map.
However the next Lanequest is being organised by Clok at Westerdale on Saturday 21st November. Please email Chris Wright immediately if you want to reserve a map. dichris.wright@btinternet.com
The TCA AGM is being held this Saturday at Youlgrave Youth Hostel. If you can't make it but want to make any suggestions based on your rides in NYMBO events this year please let me know as I am going.
If you have any suggestions of venues, time limits or dates for next season please get back to me - especially if you want to plan an event. Forestry Commission still haven't made a final decision about their new charges for 2010 but apparently it is going to be a national aggreement. I am thinking of having 4 forest events next year but possibly making them 3 hour events by using larger areas such as Dalby & Bickley, Cropton & Newtondale, Langdale and Broxa.
Finally, I received an email from Chris Sykes who is wanting to sell her husband's bikes as he sadly died last year.
