NYMBO Update

Nidderdale Trailquest

Thanks to David Day and Roz Bardon for planning such a challenging course in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Thanks to you for turning up even though the forecast wasn't very promising – 111 riders made everyone's efforts worthwhile. Thanks to the helpers for making the event run smoothly and to Jens for drawing another excellent map. Nidderdale Showground made an excellent event centre with flat parking, plenty of toilets and a warm office for registration. I don't think we will wait another 6 years before we return.

Although the weather left a little to be desired the mixture of moorland and valley bridleways intermingled with pleasant tarmac lanes ensured that there was plenty of route choice for everyone. However, whichever way we went there were always plenty of hills. The optimum route seemed to be to head west around the old mining area below Greenhow then circle south over the moors before using the lanes down the valley before crossing the River Nidd and working out the best way back without losing too many points. The fitter riders could then visit Brimham Rocks before a final fast descent back to Pateley Bridge.

Andy Conn just managed to pip Andrew Windrum with very similar routes only leaving out 5 controls each. Ray Morris scored an impressive 381 points to beat the much younger John Rawdon by a single point. Helen Jackson & Anthony Cooper won the mixed categories and Mandy Faint scored an impressive 340 points to beat all the other women.

As it was a National event, prizes were awarded to the leading riders at 4.30. Anyone who couldn't stay can collect theirs at Cropton.

With only one event left the league positions are looking clearer but the final event in Cropton Forest could be decisive in many classes.

Andrew Windrum leads M21 and will win unless Nick Harmer wins at Cropton and Andrew doesn't score more than 87%. Stu Neilson, Rik Thompson, Richard Harrison and Steve Wilson are battling for third place.

Emily Brooks and Mandy Faint have won W21 and W40 respectively.

Andy Conn has won M40 with Wayne Nicholson likely to finish second ahead of Mike Naylor.

John Galway should win M50 unless John Rawdon scores 95% and JG less than 81% at Cropton. John Dixon, Dave Evans and Steve Willis are battling for third place.

Mary Carrick and Karen Blackburn have won W50 and W60 respectively.

Pat and Oli Piggott lead Sam & Will Wilson so it depends who turns up in the Generation class.

David Day should finish ahead of John Tiffany in M60. Andy & Hazel Stanforth lead the Tandem and X21 class while Dennis Jacques and Sheila Pearce have won X40. Unfortunately there haven't been many Youths riding consistently so the prize will probably go to whoever turns up!!

The flier for the final event at Cropton is on the web site. The event centre is at Spiers House Caravan Park which is still open if you want to come for the weekend. Registration will open an hour earlier than usual at 11.30 with start times between 12 and 1pm. The control collectors will then be able to finish before dark. Prizegiving will take place at 3.30 so please stay to support the category winners. T-shirts as usual plus prizes donated by Westbrook Cycles

If you can't make it, the Winter Lanequests are starting in December with 3 events based on friendly North Yorkshire pubs. Provisional details on the web page but no-one has volunteered to plan the events yet. If you fancy having a go please get in touch. If not, I will have the benefit of regular planning rides around some beautiful countryside.
