NYMBO Update
Langdale Comments
Thanks to Dave Lloyd for planning the course and putting out all of the controls. He even had to collect them from Broxa Forest on Sunday morning as they had been used for the White Rose Night event the previous day!! When he first visited the forest in June the byway into the forest from Lownorth Park was rideable. Unfortunately since then the restriction on motor vehicles has lapsed and the track has been badly eroded by quad bikes, it hasn't stopped raining and 700 orienteers went up and down there on Saturday!! It didn't really stand a chance. It was a hard start and finish but as the White Rose event parking was at Lownorth Park there wasn't any choice. Perhaps we should have started at the top of the track so that the 15 minutes it took weren't part of the time limit. The next time we return to Langdale we will definitely park somewhere else.
The second apology concerns the descriptions. Somehow the draft and final versions were both printed and half of you will have had the wrong set - myself included. Fortunately the controls were exactly where they were meant to be and not hidded so if you got to the middle of the circle you would have found the control - but it was a little disconcerting.
After the first climb I enjoyed the course despite the mud and some very interesting tracks - courtesy of LangdaleQuest 4x4 drivers. The sensible riders just used the forest roads as much as possible which were very fast and only used short sections of eroded tracks.
Congratulations to Andrew Windrum for outscoring Andy Conn - it doesn't happen often - and to Dennis Jacques and Sheila Pearce who won the mixed category to complete a full weekend in North Yorkshire which included the Nationaol event at Malham as well as the Moors Marathon.
Thanks as usual to all of the helpers - especially John Butler, Dave Evans, Bob McDonald, Andy & Hazel Stanforth and Ralph & Chris Defty for collecting the controls while you were travelling home.
There were 2 items of lost property - a helmet and pair of gloves which dropped off a landrover leaving the car park. Please get in touch if they are yours and I will bring them to Dalby or post them.
At registration a few riders entries hadn't been received. We didn't receive them and all of the cheques have now been banked. Please check whether your cheque has been cashed and, if not, please post a cheque for your entry fee payable to NYMBO to me. Thanks.
