Thanks to the Parsons Family for taking over this event at short notice when I had to work in Wales all week.
We had quite a good turnout with 28 riders in all. The weather stayed
dry, but there was a chilly easterly breeze which was a bit deceptive for
the riders. As we were starting from the extreme east of the map this meant a headwind on the way back in and so quite a few were stung by severe penalties. Still, most said they had enjoyed the ride. Unfortunately there were a couple of controls missing or not quite as described as the event was originally planned 3 years ago. The sign with the caption to find for control 9 is no longer there. The grey hydrant at control 7 was there but very difficult to find as it was cover plate on the ground surrounded by long grass and nettles. A couple of other questions
were a little confusing too. Riders who couldn't find these were told to
credit them in usual way.
Unfortunately the start & finish were marked on the wrong pub, as was the grid reference for the event. I didn't realise that there were 2 pubs in the village. However, the details clearly said Ferryboat Inn and it was clearly signed from the end of the road with pub & NYMBO signs so I hope everyone found us OK.
Next month's event is definitely at The Crosby which is the only pub in Thornton-le-Beans. Hope you can make it.
Cheers
Steve
