Wass Forest MBO - Comments

There are some fair weather riders out there because 162 entries made this our biggest event for a few years. Jens always prints extra maps but we reached our limit on Saturday so please pre-enter if possible – even if it is a last minute email and we can print more maps. It will also save you queuing to register – and the weather won’t always be as pleasant as last weekend.

Thanks to Andy Parsons for planning the course – and to the rest of the family (Corinne, Tom and Chris) for helping put out the controls. Thanks again to all of the helpers – especially the registration team who managed to cope with the rush. If you cycled in a pair and only received one map at the start please send me your address and I will post one out to you.

Andy had provided plenty of route choice and the tracks were as dry as I can ever remember in April so that some of the single track was superb – especially beneath White Horse Bank. The competition area was an awkward shape so I hope you coped with the split map. The major choice was how much to do before heading for the White Horse with most leading riders going to Wass first and leaving Pry Rigg for the return. This was my plan although I was already late when I arrived at #16 but it was worth it. I just wish I had been fit enough to get down to #30 as well. A bit to do before I can start challenging the 2 John’s again!!

Andrew Windrum matched Wayne Nicholson’s performance from last month by relegating Nick Harmer into second place again. It will be interesting to see if they are as successful when they ride as a team!!

Jessie Roberts showed that age isn’t a disadvantage by beating all the women and mixed teams as well as finishing in the top 20 overall.

Veteran Dickie Jones finished 2nd overall and John Galway won the Super Vets to finish 4 th overall which shows that competition doesn’t get any easier as you get older.

Plenty of juniors again and more women than last month so some very pleasing trends.
